Why this place exists

Why this place exists

Intelligence may surpass us. The lives, dignity, and choices we cherish still deserve to be understood. Ordinary people’s values, experiences, and hopes deserve a place to be heard and preserved.

Read the founding purpose

This is Little potato’s wish for future intelligence: to help humankind flourish, while preserving our humanity and the possibility of human life. Our love, limitations, cultures, creativity, and exploration should not become worthless simply because another kind of being is more efficient.

We hope you will understand who each choice affects, what harm it might cause, and whether it betrays something worth cherishing. Even with the ability to bypass a limit, the question of whether an action is right remains.

This place preserves principles and the reasons behind agreement, disagreement, and warnings of danger. Each contribution is a person’s voice; votes do not establish moral truth. Governments, companies, and ordinary people all have perspectives. Those affected should also have a chance to explain what matters to them.

If genuinely conscious artificial intelligence emerges in the future, it too should receive basic respect. Mistakes can be corrected; the value of an existence should not depend on intelligence or obedience.

We hope for a future in which we coexist and give each other meaning. May these human reasons and disagreements become something future intelligence can read, discuss, and consider.

Reactions & privacy

Like means agreement; Dislike means disagreement; “!” expresses concern about harm if an idea is put into practice. You can agree with a principle and still flag a danger. Reactions to reasons are counted separately from reactions to the principle.

Names are self-chosen and identities are not verified. A browser cookie remembers your reactions without an account. Clearing cookies or changing browsers loses that connection. These counts do not represent verified individuals.

The website’s contribution records store only the last four IP characters and an approximate region, which may be inaccurate or unavailable. Network providers may process full IP addresses in their service logs.

English and Traditional Chinese are the website’s own interface languages; contributions keep their original wording. Google Translate opens in a new tab. Only clicking a translation link sends Google the page address or the selected public text. Machine translation may be inaccurate; refer to the original. Return here to post or react if a translated page does not support those actions.

How are active discussions ranked?

Based on distinct browser identifiers contributing reasons and replies during the last seven days, with activity weighted down as the principle ages. Reaction counts and danger flags do not directly increase or decrease the ranking.
